Reviving Atlantis.

The creation of a city-state is an interesting task since it would tackle on topics relating to Plato. It was Plato who created utopia which would tease our minds to query on its existence. We are also thrilled by Platos The Republic which presented the ideas of Socrates on a good society wherein justice prevails. In this paper, we will create a city-state that reflects the works of Plato then.
Where peace is our slogan and the demand of it, an innate entreaty that commissions us to preserve it. It is where my utopia begins and my Atlantis  a retrieved sunken reality.
People are we, sculpted in the most creative hands of justice, the ripest of complaisance the instigator of all righteousness and light. Fashioned from this inestimable generosity of a being most high, we want a habitat of freedom, an atmosphere which would invite meaningful verve, just enterprise and motivate a  capitalism of virtues  rather than a government of malignant aggrandizement ( Freedom from Want ).
The tendency to claim something or go against something or someone as a response of securing our interests is under our very awareness of the overlapping concepts of justice and security. Such behaviors I believe are bearable if and only if their very reasons reason out enough for themselves and the larger people that goes into discretion with it.
In the perimeters of my city-state shall stand the very foundations of indisputable and genuine law, unmoved by neither pleading for the fewer, nor bribery to command greater control. The word of justice will be the very authority to superintend the auxiliaries of government (Slote, 2002). From the dictum of fairness and honesty shall altruistic programs be established, furthering the notion by US President Abraham Lincoln  the government is of the people, by the people and for the people  as certain as Athens once was a great city.
From within the borders of my city-state, the people shall live to falsify what Thrasymachus says,  justice is nothing but the advantage of the stronger (Republic 338c) (Kemerling, 2006). For where the meek and vulnerable stay, the stronger shall fellowship him. The works of the artisans shall be known as those of the skilled doctors, and the farmer shall get the most out of harvest season while government asks him less in return. There shall be ample space for merchants and capitalists to thrive and progress shall be sought with sustainability secured.
The poor shall be welcomed in the most comprehensive schools, with equal chance and opportunities to arm themselves with the latest feats in science and arithmetic for justice calls that they be given equal dealing as with those born with silver spoons in their mouths. The offenders shall, no matter how monstrous their offices may be, be brought down to face the public with their heads on the ground, and the wronged with their hearts consoled for Duchess de Abrantes cheers because  justice is prompt, it is never delayed . For  ...tyranny is not a matter of minor theft and violence, but of wholesale plunder, sacred and profane, private or public  (Kemerling, 2006).
These are my philosophies let urchins and beggars enjoy the taxes levied by the people. It is in the idea of justice that we gather funds, that we may at equal ground be given due services and motives for communal benefit be carried into play.  My city-state shall be an avenue for the ambitious poor to become more productive and participative. The people as the foremost entities where my city-state draws its existence shall be prioritized in all activities of development. Quality products and services shall be given to citizens before they be commercialized elsewhere.
According to John E.E.D. Acton, or Lord Acton (1834-1902)   power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. like the case of the heinous war crimes in other countries (Hooker, 1999). If only the United States government paid attention on the reports of sinister military operations in Iraq, there will be less casualty of war in the country. Therefore it remains advantageous that the people hold the power to elect or depose a leader on the basis of his doings and overdoings.
Early signs of selfish political intentions shall be subdued before momentum. Plato was aware of this, that commoners might be envious of the power of the Guardians, desiring it for themselves so as to obtain greater goods and pleasures (Ross, 2009). Therefore ethical standards will be more strictly imposed, with officials living in modesty and humble lives.
Although seemingly hard to perceive at present, in its most basic state, Im talking of a city-state with a system that would monitor  resources and calculate considerably feasible items to be produced without the threat of depletion. a system that is developed to truly harness wind, solar, geothermal, wave, tide energy as unlimited and clean energies - there is supposedly enough geothermal energy currently available that could be used for 4000 years before it runs out at the energy consumption rate of today also subsumed in my city-state is an automated agricultural system that would monitor and produce crops - imagine it in the same way as a car production plant using hydroponic farming for example, to produce crops and an automated system to take them from simple crops into actual presentable foods.
My city-state would also be safeguarded from the threat of environmental irregularities for it will have a system that would monitor earth activity, atmosphere, etc and predict natural disasters develop superior production lines that would allow automation of the major items, make use of technology within the services industry and automate the majority of jobs to allow   people to truly be free.
The vast majority of aberrant behavior is caused by environment - if someone is within a society that promotes scarcity and is at a disadvantage (povertylack of funds) they will turn to crime to survive, if a child is brought up in an elitist household they shall wish to have power, and control over a person, and have a warped value system. Essentially suggesting that genetics has little to do with behavior, it is completely environment-orientated.
The idea is that by ensuring people to have the basic necessities in life, it would remove the majority of problems we see with regards to crime and deviant behaviors, removing the need for a traditional government. The overgrowth of our current value system would also be needed to ensure the removal of such characteristics as greed, self preservation, vanity, and etc. This could be achieved through a rigid educational system promoting unity among all and the earth.
Such an educational system embraces all the disciplines toward self-actualization. Students are taught according to the field where they will excel best and be of most potent benefit for the city-state in whole, a government with schools that envision bringing out the best in their scholars, institutions which pay diligent attention on research and development.   A highly educated population means that technological research can move a lot faster  (Hagelin, Perfect Government).
Much like the movie Accepted where dedicated and passionate students who wanted to have tertiary education but proscribed because of their inability to cope with standards favorable only for the few and not for the masses- and finally found their own school that solicits how every single student wanted to learn be an expert at.
A government with the greatest understanding of the individuals that make it is the best government .
The rest of the Republic answers the challenge of a perfect state. It does so by way of analogy. Socrates said that it is difficult to distinguish what is going on in the soul, but it is easier to see what is going on in the state. Thus the state will be examined by analogy to the soul. Now we would say, that the state is the macrocosm (makros, large, kosmos, universe), the large scale analogue, and the soul is the microcosm (mikros, small), the small scale analogue. When matters are sorted out for the state, then the soul and the individual can be understood in its own simplest right (Ross, 2005).
Plato in his Republic was originally looking for justice in a government, but justice does not appear in the list of virtues. The answer is that justice applies to them  all  in the sense of their organization. Therefore, my city-state shall have justice as the vertebrae of all its actions and undertakings.
In this sense, education and religion will work sideways to promote upon the citizens the value of justice and its application to all forms of human endeavor and dealings with one another. Religion will be an avenue which would cater spiritual growth, and education shall confirm it. The church will have its representative and voice in the decisions of the city-state observing the spectrum of  justice  commonly perceived by the religion and the state (Hooker, 1999). However, all forms of religion shall be respected and properly represented the moment the city-state needs its intelligent opinion.
My city-state shall promote unity and harmony amidst diversity. It shall have at one hand, a military and police force that are at all times a defender of the state and not of its leaders. It shall at all times observe the human rights and continue to uphold its commitment to deliver conscientious public service and a criminal justice system that effectively hears before it condemns on the other hand.
Natural laws and conscience-based lawmaking shall be the frontline legislative measures I will undertake in ensuring that justice comes at the onset of every crime investigation. Every citizen shall have an inviolable right to defend himself without being self-incriminated. Fiscal capabilities shall not matter in all forms of court proceedings. Everyone can sue and be sued without being restrained by financial, cultural, spiritual, emotional and sexual divergence. Status quo shall not be taken into consideration as a criterion in all forms of favor. There shall be a fair treatment to all and sundry not only in the eyes of law but in the eyes of morality as well.
Moreover, on the economic side of my city-state, people shall be given opportunities to grow and transcend greater heights. Work suitable to him as well as satisfying to his needs and wants shall be provided. The human workforce shall be taken into priority over machines. Workers shall work in a decent and comfortable workplace. They shall be provided compensation much as necessary.
A currency that represents a strong purchasing power shall dominate and control the market with respect to healthy and potent economic resources.  Debt, which consumes a person, shall be the least of the options of the capitalist and consumers in my city-state.  When money is cheap, people no longer compete for insufficient savings to maximize the efficiency of the money supply they just build whatever they want to do without regard for sustainability through profit because debt by inflation is always available from the banks.
That creates inequality and poverty. In this financial system, if resources were cheap or freely available to everyone just as currency is today, competing projects would also have no incentive to maximize the efficient use of those resources.
However, excessive profits for personal riches shall not be allowed. This system eliminates that desire if any of the effects of these excessive profits enhances the power elite by making it difficult for ordinary people to protect themselves with savings, this will only result to massive greed and material dissatisfaction. My city-state shall take full control on the operations of the financial market most especially on matters relating to interest rates. It shall take cognizance and prevent inflation at all cost.
Plato in Republic pays respect to democracy as the fairest of constitutions (Hooker, 1999). The principle of this state is the desire of the many. This is democratic in the sense that all desires are equally good, which means anything goes.  However, since a decision must be reached from among the mix of ideals, a President shall institute the majority s voice and distribute everything due to the people.
The city-state s perception of justice shall every now and then remind its constituents the very purpose of myour government, thus consensus will be sought in all issues involving the people genuinely democratic. The idea of justice sweetened by mercy is also incorporated in whatever society we knew in order to achieve a peaceful environment. Equity is always part of democracy and justice is present where there is respect to human rights. Therefore, democracy is attained through proper administration of justice so that the events that transpired prior to the death of Socrates will not happen again.
