The crimes that have been committed during times of war are those that history should never forget.  War itself is devastating enough but with human violations such as genocide even more people suffer.  The Kurdish Genocide has been largely overlooked because of the numerous violations by the Iraqi government under the control of Saddam Hussein.  While it is admitted that he has committed other crimes, there is none greater than the Kurdish Genocide which he engineered in Iraq.  Beginning with the poisoned gas and the human torture that he inflicted upon the Kurdish population, Saddam Hussein also initiated a number of plans that were designed to eradicate the Kurdish population.  Using a combination of acts that were meant to draw a calculated counterinsurgency, the Kurds were often goaded into acting against the Iraqi government to justify their violent retaliation.  These acts are evidenced in Anfal extermination that shows how Saddam Hussein also used his genocidal acts to consolidate and magnify his power.  It is clear from the events that transpired and expert testimony that Saddam Hussein did indeed engineer the Kurdish Genocide, justifying this as an act to consolidate power against the mounting international pressure.
