Pros of Employment

The term employment refers to service performance which is then rewarded by wages. Employment can be done through contract of hire, written or oral. Service offered can also be done in international business. Employment includes all the tasks carried out for wages or under any contract of hire. Employment can also be defined as occupation for which one is paid.

I chose the topic of employment because of the current rise in number of people seeking employment. Since the rate of unemployment is on the rise, the companies are taking advantage of the people by paying them less and not providing suitable condition for working. Another reason for choosing this topic was to shed light on the benefits that come with employment and challenges which are related with self employment. Not everybody is borne with entrepreneurial skills and this is what is making majority of the people lose their hard earned money while struggling to employ themselves. Although self employment is considered flexible, it is not easy when you lack managerial skills (Jackman,  Hegelund, 2001).

There are various reasons why one would opt get employed with someone rather than self employment. One of the major reasons is the problems and stress which comes with owning a business. For some people the task of being responsible for every operation of the business can be too tiring. Individuals who are employed by a company have several advantages over those who are self employed. There are also some benefits which come with employment like salaries and taxes.

In an employment, it is the obligation of the employer to pay income, social security, Medicare taxes for all their employees. Even though these monies are deducted from the employees salary, it is upon the employer to gather them and send them to their respective destinations. Employment enables people to be independent since there is some money which will be coming in. the money got from employment can be use to settle bills (Arthur,  Rousseau, 2001).

There are some employments which offer training before employees start working. Most of the trainings offered by the companies are formal and may be on apprenticeships while others may be related to the kind of job one is employed to do. Such kind of training enables people employed without proper qualification get qualification. Through employment you can get experience which can enable you change jobs or move to another employer. Through employment, one gets to learn many things which they did not know before (Jackman,  Hegelund, 2001).

There are also cons of employment. With the advancement in digital technology, most people doing clerical jobs and others which can be operated by machines are likely to loose their jobs. In such a situation a person who was self employed stands a better chance of surviving since such changes do not affect them. Self employment is more satisfying than getting employed since in this case you are lack passion for what you are doing. Another disadvantage of employment is that you cannot choose the kind of people you work with. Employment also lacks job security and this make people work with fear. Employment does not leave allowance for balancing between work and family (Arthur,  Rousseau, 2001).

The pros of employment outweigh the cons. With employment one is not exposed to risks associated with reduced sales, management of the whole business lies with the owner, and one is also able to acquire skills which they would have not acquired in life. The cons of employment are very limited and are mostly related to job security and passion for the kind of work one is doing.
