State of the Union Address

President Obamas State of the Union address qualifies to be a good speech. A good speech is characterized by been brief and to the point. In the speech, he focuses on the critical issues facing people of America without talking about him personally. In his speech he introduces the common problems the middle class Americans face such as poverty, lack of good health care, education among other issues (Whitehouse, 2010). He discusses in detail his scheme in providing a better life for Americans. In the speech he uses facts and accurate materials to drive his points. He is very comfortable with his words and often uses repetition a feature that shows confidence. The use of words such as let me be clear, make no mistake weve got to get it right and Lets get it done among others shows that he has confidence in what he is saying (Obama, 2010). President Obama uses clear words and does not stammer showing that he is knowledgeable.

The material of the speech adapts well to the audience he was targeting, the occasion and the time period of the country. The speech covers on the economic problems that America is facing and ways of recovering and stabilizing financial system. Almost everyone in America feels the effect of financial crisis and this speech came at the right time when they needed someone to rescue them (Whitehouse, 2010). The speech talks about the stimulus bill or the Recovery Act where tax cuts, employment opportunities, better education policies and health care benefits. The speech also addresses terrorism an issue that had disturbed Americans for a long time. President Obama assures the officers sent to Afghan would come back peacefully and a peaceful way of solving their differences sought.

The speech is commendable as it deals directly with the issues affecting Americans. Every American Citizen would be thrilled by the speech because it was well planned, accurate, and factual. In addition, the speech addressed all their problems although not short-term but long term. The 2010 midterm election influenced the content of the speech this is due to the reason that President Obama has the passion to make a better America (Whitehouse, 2010). He is a knowledgeable man and the only way he can accomplish his mission is through election. Successful election would make sure that he has enough time and support that would be needed. Proper policies and strategies that would improve and entice the largest population of Americans would make sure that the election would be successful (Whitehouse, 2010).

Although the president has avoided political blame game in his speech, some content tend to ask for public glorification and are merely for political reasons. Some comments such as By the time I took office, we had a one-year deficit of over 1 trillion and projected deficits of 8 trillion over the next decade (Obama, 2010). He goes on to say that All this was before I walked in the door (Obama, 2010). These comments show that he glorifies his political party and blames the previous government for wrong policies. The speech pacifies the democrats by telling them that they are expected to solve American problems and they should not relax. The Republicans are given the power to keep the democrats on their toes to make sure they perform not only for the sake of being in opposition but for good leadership.

In conclusion, the presidents speech was powerful and his assessment on the Unions state is true. America needs job creation, banks recovery, innovation and export initiative, investment in education and skills, health care reform, terrorism solution and immigration reforms among other policies. The media shared the same sentiments that Obamas speech was powerful and inspiring and showed hope for America (Whitehouse, 2010). The aggressive and positive talk delivered by the self-effacing, self-confident president full of natural humor talked of the various disappointment facing America such as terrorism and nuclear weaponry, disappointments in the Supreme Court, financial crisis and ways of improving lives of citizens and better America (Whitehouse, 2010). The president had gathered all the facts and had researched well on all aspects of economical developments and everything he said made sense if followed and political influence avoided at all costs (Whitehouse, 2010).
