Collapse of Communism

Communism is a model of leadership in a society which aims at providing equitable work in production and resources and in turn sharing all the benefits accrued. Immediately after the collapse of Soviet Union in 1991, Instead of forging into a unified democratic state, Russia underwent a series of breakdown into devolved state. The economy was further ruined by territorial wars between ethnic groups, rulers of the past and other groups which were competing to survive. Russian economy continued to overlook the effects of bribes compliments and other payoffs continued on a downward trend and at present it is in total disarray (Strayer, 1998).

The main contributing factor to the collapse of this union was due to its lack of support from other nations. The communism was under a constant condemnation for tolerating corruption by the way it was run. The fall of communism, can be attributed to the failure of the administration to live up to the promise of providing a better life for all.

It was also known to have low moral respect to human rights by putting justice only on writing but in practical action doing the opposite.  Although the union had managed to balance agriculture and increase food production during Lenins tenure, his successors especially Brezhnevs lost the control of efficient use of the land which led to low performance in the economy. By 1980s communist population experienced a significant drop in the standards of living which made the population feel disappointed about the government. This led to rebellions against the administration and eventual dissolution in 1991. When Mikhail Gorbachev took power in 1985, he tried with no success in improving the standards of living of the soviets.  The deterioration of economy meant that the communism had completely failed (Strayer, 1998).

The intention of the U.S.-Soviet dtente under Nixon was to improve relations between U.S and Russia. However the treaty lacked clarity on the level of cooperation between these two states which led to its collapse in 1970s. On the other hand, the treaties signed under this dtente had some laxity in controlling the two superpower capacities but only focused on the third parties.
