Introduction
FBI, founded in July, 1908 is a main principal investigative division of the United States Department of Justice. Headquartered in Washington D.C, it takes the responsibility to investigate various crimes reported all over the United States. The offices and divisions of FBI HQ gives the program directions and support to 56 field offices. There are approximately about 400 satellite offices called as residential agencies, four specialized field installations and more than 60 international liaison offices called as Legal Attaches. There is a Director, appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate to look after the overall affairs of FBI for up to ten years.

The agency also provides data to the other enforcement agencies the data related to fingerprint identification, laboratory examinations and police training. FBIs main aim is to provide authenticated set of crime statistics that help the enforcement administration, operation and management.

Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) The Law enforcement agencies from all over the US will inform the FBI about the crime in their area. From this report, the FBI brings out a bulletin titled Crime in the United States  Uniform Crime Reports. It will contain complete view of the reported crime, the trends, the arrest statistics and other crime related data. The copies are made available to the public on special request. FBI collects full data from all the police departments of the country and come at a data regarding the various types of deaths that would have occurred due to murder. The idea of UCR was shaped up in 1929 by the International Association of Chiefs of Police to meet the demand for a reliable uniform crime reporting system. FBI was handed over the baton of UCR in the year 1930 and was given the responsibility of collecting, publishing and archiving these statistics. The CSMU (Crime Statistics Management Unit) goes through the following steps to put in the order the data received by them

Check the received data for its legitimacy
Check the received data for its logical consistency
Check the received data for its adherence to the sound estimation methodologies
Check the received data for the adherence to the monetary submission standards for stolen and recovered property

FBI has a major role to play in the security of United States of America.
