Enactment of Bill SB 798

Bill  SB 798 was authored by Senator John J. Carona of District 16 in his hometown, Dallas County under the State of Texas. This bill was filed on February 11, 2009 and this pertains to the refunds of overpayments or erroneous payments of ad valorem taxes of a taxpayer. It was then passed to the Senate Committee on Finance for proper review and recommendation. The bill was able to pass favorably and with no amendments, thus it was out of the Senate Committee on Finance on May 04, 2009 and was then approved by the Senate House with a vote of 12 yes and without objections on May 12, 2009. After which the bill was turned over to the House Committee on Ways and Means for their recommendations as well as amendments that they can add to the bill. The bill contained no further amendments and was then out of the House Committee on Ways and Means on May 19, 2009 and was then approved by the House Committee with a vote of 10 yes and without objections on May 26, 2009.

The next stage after the approval of the House Committee is the approval of the Governor. It is the responsibility of the Governor if he  she will veto the bill, sign it or allow it to become a law without a signature. If the Governor objected the bill with explanation, it will be returned to the originating chamber if they are still in session and will require a majority to override the objection. If no action is made within the allowed time, the bill will already become a law. Bill  SB 798 was sent on June 19, 2009 to the Governor for approval. It was noted that no objections was made by the Governor to the bill thus it effectively became a law on January 1, 2010.
